This document outlines AWAVA’s domestic advocacy priorities against international frameworks and
commitments on gender equality and women’s rights.
AWAVA Advocacy Priorities
- Australian governments must fund and support effective, accessible and competent services for the diverse
groups of women subjected to different forms of violence. - Women’s and children’s safety must be placed at the centre of the family law system, as outlined in Women’s
Legal Services Australia’s Five Step Plan for Safety First in Family Law. - The National Plan to Reduce Violence Against Women and their Children needs to include a national consultative mechanism for civil society to be involved in oversight and guidance, as well as appropriate mechanisms for monitoring and evaluation.
