This document outlines AWAVA’s domestic advocacy priorities against international frameworks and
commitments on gender equality and women’s rights.

AWAVA Advocacy Priorities

  1. Australian governments must fund and support effective, accessible and competent services for the diverse
groups of women subjected to different forms of violence.
  2. Women’s and children’s safety must be placed at the centre of the family law system, as outlined in Women’s
Legal Services Australia’s Five Step Plan for Safety First in Family Law.
  3. The National Plan to Reduce Violence Against Women and their Children needs to include a national consultative mechanism for civil society to be involved in oversight and guidance, as well as appropriate mechanisms for monitoring and evaluation.
